SN C53635, Sharps historian notes this rifle was originally ordered in 1871 to General Hawley of Hartford, Connecticut. Joseph Roswell Hawley, being a Major General of Volunteers during the Civil War, along with owner of the Hartford Courant Newspaper, and future politician, this gun was likely a gift, factory returned. No other historic notes Sharps mentions in between this invoice, then finally being shipped in 1874 to John P. Lower, Sporting Goods dealer in Denver CO. Early Sharps by the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Co. 28" barrel with rifling still present. Marked Fruend Bros on barrel. Double set triggers. Even finish retaining some bluing, stock in very good shape. Hammer spring works but will not hold in cocked position. Includes copy of Sharps Rifle Company historian letter. Antique.
